Kikuyu is located Southwest of Nairobi CBD off the Nairobi-Nakuru Highway approximately 19 kilometers from the city center. It is a constituency in Kiambu County consisting of 6 Wards namely, Kinoo, Kikuyu, Kabete, karai, Muguga, and Nyathuna.
Kikuyu was named after the Gikuyu/ Agikuyu people, as they were the major tribe that occupied the area. Kikuyu area was a settlement of the colonial missionaries, which is the reason that mainly contributed to its growth as a town.
The Nairobi River has its source in the Ondiri wetlands in Kikuyu.
